I'm breaking up with Instagram

I'm done with trying to figure out the algorithm.

I'm done chasing dopamine.

I'm done dancing and prancing around in front of the camera like a circus monkey just to get my message across. 

What happened to good old fashioned blurting things out without self censoring? Writing without boxing in my every thought in a marketing message? Or posting a fun pic of something silly, without having to add "3 ways to have fun" and some trendy shitty music to go with it, to get on the right side of Mr Zuckerberg?!

No, I've had enough of 'keeping up'.

Hence, I’ve decided to try a new tactic!

 

To quieten the noise on my phone (read: in my head) I’m going to try to write weekly - which realistically will become bi-monthly - emails to the people on my list instead. 

Nothing long, don't worry! But I will make an effort to make them sincere. Sincere-er. You know what I mean. 🤓

IG is still a great platform for new friendships, to reach likeminded and find art you like, but the constant comparison, the time it steals away from me, the way it affects my sleep… I simply don’t love it anymore. Maybe I’m too old for the social media pace? Idk. (But not too old for abbreviations! Ha!)

 

I think of myself as a pretty down to earth person (if you disagree I politely ask you to shut your gob 😁) but staying authentic is becoming more and more difficult on instagram. And to be honest, it’s really only the people who like my art enough to be willing to receive emails from me, that I care about. 

So from now on the newsletters are where I’ll write the juicy dear-diary stuff. The secrets, (the lies), the inspiration and the discount codes.

 

I will still be present on instagram, just please know that the true and honest stories will be found in these letters.

 

Are you up for it? Will you find it annoying getting more letters from me? Sad to see less of me on IG? (Here comes hubris 😎) Or will you feel chosen and seen receiving my list-only emails? (That’s my intention!) Please let me know what you think of this idea!
